Nationwide Football and Heineken Rugby

In 2001 Mark was commissioned by Nationwide to put together a drum troop to perform on the pitch at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff as entertainment for the crowds prior to each of the play–off games.

The brief was to create a fun 'drum battle' from end to end of the pitch between rival supporters. Armed with eight large Water Butts, he set about creating 'The Drum Team,' working out rhythms and choreographing moves to make the group as visual as it was loud. Playing well known beats such as We Will Rock You and the football clap rhythm, the crowds joined in with gusto, and a great atmosphere was created to welcome the players onto the pitch…

In 2002 Mark was hired to put together a group of twelve drummers to fly to Beziers, France, for the semi-final of the European Rugby Cup between Munster and Castres. With half the drummers wearing Castres shirts and the other half in Munster's colours, they entertained fans as they arrived before the match. Then 20 minutes before kick off they marched onto the pitch and proceeded to perform a routine that created a buzz and excitement amongst the fans before making a V of drummers at the entrance to the tunnel to beat out a rhythm to accompany the players running onto the pitch.

Feedback: Since then the drummers have repeated the performance at many further Heineken Cup matches, including the 2007 semi-finals in the UK.
