Case history: Canon

Brief: 1,200 delegates at national conference, ice breaker and 3 x 10 minute energisers using boomwhackers. Theme tune from Close Encounters Of The Third Kind to be created to fit in with conference theme - "The Future Today"

Venue: Hilton Marriot, Birmingham NEC

Performance: 240 of each colour that make up the five notes of the Close Encounters theme were laid out in groups on delegates’ chairs. As they entered the conference suite six drummers pounded out a rhythm, which they joined in on their boomwhackers. A rumbling Mexican Wave was then created across the room, creating a breathtaking sound. Throughout the afternoon other boomwhacker activities were orchestrated, intermingled with rousing performances by the drummers, each time culminating in a speeding up Close Encounters theme.
