Case history: Virgin Mobile

Brief 1,600 call centre staff at annual conference, 4 separate sessions with 400 attendees at each. Wanted boonwhackers which the staff would be able to keep after each session. 10 minute energiser with no speech, to illustrate non verbal communication in the middle of the conference

Performance
At the appointed moment Mark Walker ran on stage and the boomwhackers were distributed amongst the delegates. Without speaking Mark indicated how to play the instruments, created a Mexican wave, got the attendees to play the "football clap" rhythm and then created some call and response beats using different parts of the body – striking the bottom in particular created much mirth! For the finale the house band drummer struck up a beat, Mark fashioned a boomwhacker orchestra creating the conference theme tune, with the rest of the band joining in for a loud and resounding ending. As Virgin Mobile MD Tom Alexander said – "Wow!"
